Can’t Believe the Fleas We are Seeing!

Just recently had 2 dogs arrive at the rescue covered in fleas.  The little puppy even had nests of fleas and eggs in his coat.  His ears were black and he had black spots all over.  A good flea bath and treatment and we discovered he was a white lab with pretty golden ears.

To keep fleas and ticks from your dog they need to be treated with a topical flea preventive. We use Frontline and it always seem to be the most reliable.  If you don’t have money for Frontline (it isn’t cheap), a good flea shampoo will also work. Using a flea comb afterward gets out those that you may have missed and the eggs. Look on the bottle to see when you will need to shampoo your pet again.  I am thinking it is 10 days.  Spraying the area where your dog lays is another way of keeping fleas at bay.  The yard, dog beds and rugs all should be treated. Running the flea comb through your dogs coat periodically is a great way to keep on top of the flea problem.  One flea in the comb–oops–time for another bath.

Look at the Newest Puppies

What cute little things they are. So bright eyed and fat with beautiful thick white hair.  Their Mom is a Lab mix and we think these are labs also.  Some are light tan and others have tan spots on top of the white coat.  They are only 3 weeks old—so need to wait a few more weeks before placing them on our adoption list.  Will keep you posted of their progress.

Nyla

Approximate Age: 1 year

Breed (our best guess): Lab/shepherd Mix

Basic Stats:

Nyla

Fun Fact: She needs a home with a family that likes to play— a big yard is preferred. Nyla is not shy anymore, she loves people and other dogs. Sometimes she gets a little aggressive with other doggies, so it would be better if she was in a home without other dogs, or maybe with just one.

Nyla’s Story: Nyla came to us from our local pound, on her last day. She was adopted immediately, and was adorable with her giant ears. Nyla was loved and cared for by a wonderful lady, but became to big and too much for her to handle. Nyla is very strong and loves to go for walks and enjoys running. She has free access to the farm, so gets plenty of exercise here. She has one eye outlined normal, and one outlined in pink. A beautiful gal—with creamy white coat and a unigue look. You have to ssee her and get to know her.
