Last Week Was a One I Don’t Want to Repeat

A very sad week at 12 Hills Dog Rescue.  I had to make a trip to the Veterinary with an old friend. It was Zohnny’s last ride in the pickup and her life on earth ended that day.  Zohnny was around 11 years, a chocolate lab that we had been caring for for 2 years.  She was a tough gal, and had such bad fungus in her ears when she arrived that they were deformed on the inside.  It was an ongoing condition that we treated, but she always remained happy and ready for her ride on the 4wd Mule.  A few months ago, she developed a huge bump on the side of her head. The Vet said it was cancer and we would know when it was time to let her go.  He said it would probably be a fast growing.  Well, Zohnny  just kept going, kept eating and never appeared to be in pain. The bump went down for a while and then came back and we could tell it was time.

I will never forget that pickup ride and the sadness I felt.  WHAT A SPECIAL DOG! She had a very strong spirit and could teach us all something about perseverance. I know she is in a special place without pain, maybe riding with someone on their 4wheeler.

  1. I sure miss ole Zohnny—she was a very special gal. I look around and can see some of our special dogs (our families) that are getting older. Our Squirtie is 14 and now blind. . . .
