The Wanderer

There she was, waiting to be picked up.  She had been staying at a neighbor’s farm for 2 weeks. Pretty dog–a large dog—-where did she come from??

Now she is here at 12 Hills Dog Rescue, waiting for her new family.  She is one pretty gal, with a reddish black coat and strange golden/green eyes.  To top it off, she has the most sparkling white teeth we have ever seen. We named her Jade, because of those eyes.  She loves to be petted and hugged, and sits quietly beside us with her head on our knee.

Here is Jade!

Was she dumped, or did she wander off from her family?  So far, no one has called to claim her.

So, we have decided to put Jade on the adoption list at Petfinder.com and hope that a great family comes forward to adopt her. Well, one has come forward and they want to be her forever family. We are so happy for Jade and her new family!!!!

Change Is Good!!!

Most of the time it is hard to make changes. Just as we need to eat better, exercise more, etc., some dogs find themselves needing to change.  That is the way it was with Lola.  What a story!  She came to us from a nearby animal control and had only a few days to live. We received a message asking us to take her and give her a chance.  SO WE DID!  At first she was a nightmare waiting to happen. Very loud and screaming bark—almost hysterical type of behavior. The good news is that Lola changed!!! And for the better!  She is a wonderful gal — she has been spending time in the house with us and the other dogs.  She isn’t wild, she isn’t  aggressive, she is calm and happy. What caused the big change in Lola?

  • She was let out of her 5′ x5′ kennel. (she doesn’t like kennels)
  • She was spayed —not long ago,
  • Given special attention

Now, you can find Lola calmly laying at our feet, or just walking around and greeting everyone.  The shiny black Labrador is truly a beautiful dog  inside and out. Here is a picture of her—Hope it show her beauty.

I'm Beautiful---Inside and Out!

Not More Puppies!!!!

Now I love puppies probably more than the average person, but enough is enough. Cannot believe all these puppies in the winter months. This week we got in from the local animal control a shepherd mix female and 5 cute little 6 week old puppies.  An adorable Australian cattle dog female puppy around 10 weeks was picked up.  Today a Chow/Lab mix Momma( that was picked up this week)  had 5 new babies.   So that makes 11–and add that to the other 3 (Bootsie, Maggie Mae & Cracker)–we now have a grand total of 14 puppies. 14 puppies to find good loving forever families.  That is besides all the other young and adults dogs we have waiting for families.  Get the word out—we need families for our doggies.

Well, not to complain–We do love our doggies—young and old, but it makes me even more aware of the need for that free Spay and Neuter Clinic we are hoping for this summer.  We just hope that it will happen and that it will help the dogs in our community.

WHAT A WEEK IT WAS!!!

Last week was one of those —I can’t believe it weeks.  12 Hills was called to get 4 little puppies from underneath an abandoned mobile home.  The mother had been taken into the pound and the puppies were left behind.  The first 2 were easy to catch–and so they were brought here, given the royal treatment and placed in a warm place to recover.  The last 2 were stinkers to catch–neighbors tried, Brenda (assistant at 12 Hills) tried, but to no avail.  Everyone hoped that the food and treats would help them to trust people a little more.  Nothing happened–then finally on Thursday –there they sat–perfectly still waiting to be rescued. They were scooped t up and brought them out to be with their brothers.

The next day it turned very cold, and they probably wouldn’t have survived.  Thanks to caring people and answered prayers—-they are safe and sound with the rest of the gang.

Here is a picture of them receiving their first bath.

I Came In For This??

They Say a Picture Speaks a Thousand Words

Once in a while we capture something in the eyes of a dog when we take their picture.  That is so true with our gal Jerrie. We haven’t had her that long, but her face says so much. She expresses love and patience with those eyes. This week she shared her love with the new puppies. They came into 12 Hills scared and cold and she laid down with them and mothered them.  She sleeps on a pillow beside their pen and when they are out–they are with Jerrie.

The last 2 of Jerrie’s puppies are Bootsie and Maggie May—Jerrie was spayed this week and now she is ready for her new forever home.  She is really one in a million and we know that there is a special

Her Face Says It All

family out there for her.

I’m NOT THE LAST—I’M THE BEST!

This little girl is a gem. She was the smallest of the litter, and doesn’t like the word runt.  For some strange reason, I named her Cracker.  She is so soft and has a grayish brown coat of fur. I think they call it sable.  Anyway, she is waiting in the nursery shed with her friends Bootsie and Maggie May. We are hoping this week we can find new homes for each of them with wonderful forever families.  Of course we have 4 new puppies that came in this week to move there soon.

But then, that is another story for another day.

Cracker is a Cutie!

Sisters. . . .and Adorable!!!

Maggie May likes to play!

Take a look at Bootsie (white) and Maggie May(black).  They are the last of the Chow/lab puppies to be adopted. I think we may have saved the best for last.

It took quite awhile for all their hair to grow back–but it is so pretty, now.  To top it off they both have wonderful personalities–love to run and play and are very social. Better yet, they like to cuddle.  They are about 3 months old and ready for their new families.

I'm Bootsie

Milo And His Sisters!

Here is Milo!!!

Milo is still here and it is a mystery to us!  He is fat and sassy and gorgous to boot. His little sister Cracker is still very tiny. We are thinking she may be a smaller   breed. It is always a mystery at 12 Hills.  Skittles is so sweet and I love the cute little dots on her left ear. Not sure if we have a recent picture of her, but will share one of Milo with you.  Let us know if you are interested. The puppies are 8 weeks old and have had 2 vaccinations and ready for their new homes.

What a Crew!!!

Here is Bootsie!

Bootsie is white and Maggie Mae is black–they are the last 2 puppies of the Chow/Lab litter.  They have all their hair back and are adorable and anxious for their new forever families. Right now they are hanging out with the 4 puppies left of Freckles.  Skittles, Kibbles, Cracker & Milo are a little younger than the Chow Labs, but make up for it in size.   Milo is going to be the biggest of the crew.  They are all very healthy and eating 12 HIlls out of house and home. Call us and let us know if you are interested in any of these special puppies.

More Adventures of Bonnie and Clyde

What a pair–and may-be the title should be the mis-adventures of Bonnie and Clyde.  They have quite a story to begin with and it seems to get more interesting the older they are. A Deputy Sheriff had gone to a residence to check on a reported case abandoned dogs.  After looking around he found 2 little emaciated puppies starving in the collapsed pool.  If some water hadn’t been there, they probably would have died.

The puppies were brought to 12 Hills Dog Rescue and were given special care to get them back on their feet.  We named the puppies Bonnie and Clyde, because their adventure turned into a disaster.  We have been caring for them for the past few months and hoping that they would find the perfect home.  We thought that the perfect couple had come along, but after 3 days they decided that Bonnie was too shy and would require too much special care to reabilitate her.  Of course we took them back and both Bonnie and Clyde are back in their kennel tonight–and happy to be home. Maybe they weren’t quite ready to go out into the world–but it won’t be long.  We know that both the puppies are shy and their growth has been stunted due to the severe neglect they encountered.  We will continue to work with them—loving them until they find the perfect family that will love them and help them fully recover.  It has been a long road, but both Bonnie and Clyde are very special and we hope their next adventure is their forever home.

Tina seems to be telling Jordan to Smile for the Camera!

Why are Jordan and Tina still at 12 Hills Dog Rescue??? We surely don’t know why. They are both beautiful, with lots of energy and love to give that special family.  They are lab and heeler mix and we think the combination would make great family dogs.  Even though they have lots of energy, they are still able to sit quietly by your side and just hang out.  They are 6 months old and getting closer to being spayed.  They would make great farm dogs and enjoy riding in the 4 WD mule each night when they go for the run.

Dog of the Week #2

What about Buddy?—What a guy! He can talk to you —if he likes you.  He isn’t any trouble at all. Buddy has been neutered, had all his immunizations and is still waiting for the right family to come along.  Buddy isn’t a trouble maker, he is a special pal for the right person.  Buddy likes to hang out with you and just be there by your side.  He is about a year old and we are guessing a shepherd mix. He weighs around 50# and is beautiful golden in color. I hope that someone looks at Buddy soon and sees what we see.—An awesome family dog!

Our First Dog of the Week!

As we were going through our book of dogs to adopt, I realized that some of the dogs are overlooked.  Maybe they are too shy, or the wrong color or breed, sex, or age. Maybe they didn’t connect with the adopting family.  But, I believe their is a family somewhere for each of our special guys and gals.  So. . . .. here goes the Dog of the Week.

Pee Wee came to us on July 19, 2011 with 5 other brothers and sisters.  They were around 5 or 6 weeks old and were found laying in a ditch along a country road that was barely traveled. They were very thin, mangy and hungry.  The smallest one of the litter was a little black puppy with strange markings on his feet and the biggest ears we had ever seen.  Because he was the smallest of the litter, we named him Pee Wee.  Pee Wee had a rough start—not only was he skinny and the runt, he developed parvo, and almost didn’t pull through.  After a lot of special care and lots of love, he regained his strength and his health and is now a sweet and beautiful guy, but a little shy around most people.  He is making strides every week—visits us in the house, and enjoys being petted and talked to.

Pee Wee has had his trip to the Vet and is now neutered. Now he is ready for his new home—As he can see by the picture Pee Wee is tired of waiting. Call about him soon!

Oh, I forgot to mention, that Pee Wee’s brother and sisters all look totally different. Strange but true!!! Pee Wee may have a little German Shepherd in his background. It is a mystery that may never be solved.

Making their Debut. . . . . this Week—Freckle’s Puppies!!!!!

Not sure of the breed–but 10 little puppies are waiting for their new forever homes.  They are adorable and each one looks a little different.  Their Mom is Freckles and we think she may have some Saint Bernard in her background. She has the coloring of a Spaniel, but who knows for sure.  We are estimating the puppies will be medium-sized,  around 45 to 50 lbs.

They are 6 weeks old now and have had their first vaccination and worming.   Their names are Cracker, Buttons, Kibbles,, Moose, Milo, Bingo, Snickers, Oreo and Skittles.  I know–that is only 9, but a little one has an adoption pending and they will be naming her.

A New Year—-Changes—Adventures–Good Times—Sad Times–2012 is Here!

A new year has arrived, and it is time to talk about changes, or some call them resolutions. 12 Hills Dog Rescue has begun the new year with a BIG CHANGE!  We moved the dogs into their new 40’x60′ kennel. It is very nice and they seem to be enjoying the heated floor and better lighting. We noted that several of the dogs were upset with the change. It will take a few days for them to adjust and feel comfortable in a new place.  Change is hard for everyone.  But, change is usually good if we examine why we are changing.  I am hoping this year to find better ways of matching dogs to families. I think it will begin with a simple checklist.  I believe in keeping it simple, but sometimes more paperwork is necessary.

Adventures: are always part of running a dog rescue. Each dog can be an adventure–loving-helping them recover from their trauma and restoring them to better physical and emotional health.

Good Times–When a dog and family bond–when we are sent stories and pictures and can see the love and contentment in the dogs eyes–it’s good times for us.

Sad Times— When something bad happens to a dog, it is sad times for us. Pixie, a gal we just adopted this weekend, slipped her collar and ran. She is now loose in the country and frightened and alone.  So far, we haven’t found her. We are praying for good results and that she will find her way to a farm-house and allow someone to bring her back.

Yes, 2012 is here!!!  A new year and a special thanks to all those who gave our doggies forever homes in 2011! We couldn’t have done it without you.

Getting the Bugs Out????

What about bugs??? Shouldn’t be any in this cold weather. No, I am talking about our new 40′ x 60′ dog kennel. We have most of the kennels in, and yet still more work to do with plumbing, ventilation etc.  It is wonderful though, and the dogs are enjoying the heated floor. Actually had to turn the heat down, so they wouldn’t be too warm. We are learning about the changes that need to be made as we go, and it is going to be a great place for the dogs at 12 Hills Dog Rescue.

Of course most of the dogs that we moved are wondering “what is going on?”  It will take a few days for them to recognize their kennel spot in the new building.  What a blessing it has been to have good friends, good workers and good family.  They come through when you need them.  I will include a picture soon of the inside as well as the finished outside.

Hey, we actually have room for our tractor and cars in the machine shed now.  Things have a way of working out—and I am sure we will get all the little bugs out of the new kennel soon.

Charlie Is Waiting?

Charlie is a Handsome Man!

Charlie seemed like a fitting name for this little guy. At first I thought he was a purebred dashound, but he may be mixed. At 12 Hills, we don’t mind if they are a purebred or not. In fact, most of the doggies that come in are mixes, and they make wonderful pets.  Charlie appears to be around a year old, and will need to be neutered soon. He likes to sit on your lap and gives great kisses.  He would be a great companion for a couple or a family with children 9 years and up.  Give us a call about Charlie.

WHAT? A TALKING DOG?

Buddy came to us from a local animal control and there the story begins.  First of all, when he arrived, we noticed he looked very similar in age and breed to another sweet boy “Benny”.  Buddy began his days at 12 Hills Dog Rescue in a kennel surrendered by kennels and other dogs.  After a few weeks, he was out and about on the farm, and we discovered what a talker he actually was.  He only talked to Brenda, but they seemed to have some interesting conversations. I was just a bit envious until I found that he will talk to me, also.  How often do you find a dog that converses with you?  That just shows what an awesome personality Buddy has.  Maybe he will talk to you if you give him the opportunity.

Buddy is ready for his new family. He has been neutered and received all of his vaccinations. Call us if you want to meet Buddy.

ADVENTURE ENDS IN A CLOSE CALL

It all began one late fall day, no one knows the exact time or day, but two German Shepherd puppies decided to go on an adventure.  An abandoned and collapsed pool looked fun.  In the pool a little water–oops, we can’t get out. What will we do?  Several days later, maybe even a week, a law officer arrives on the scene to investigate dogs that had been abandoned.  After looking all around, he somehow stumbles upon 2 starving, emaciated puppies near death, in a pool that was partially collapsed.  He retrieves them and heads for 12 Hills Dog Rescue.  There they were given good food to build them up and lots of soft words of assurance.  After several weeks and lots of care—2 beautiful Shepherd puppies are ready for their next adventure.  We named them Bonnie and Clyde.  Bonnie is outgoing and Clyde is just a little more shy.

Now you want to know the rest of the story?  The dogs that were reported abandoned on the property were never found.  Where did Bonnie and Clyde come from?  Were they abandoned also, and left to die?  Or were they two puppies from a neighboring house on an adventure gone bad? We may never know and Bonnie and Clyde can’t tell us.  What we do know is that they were saved, thanks to a very kind man, and that they are well again and ready for new adventures with a loving forever family.

The Puppies Take After Their Mom

What breed is she? Katie is a mystery to us as far as the breed goes.  She is short-legged and very stocky built.  I just thought she was over fed, but it appears her puppies have all the same traits.  They are short-legged and will have a dense undercoat, and they are very plump. Actually, one looks like a bulldog –but I doubt if that is actually their breed.  Regardless–they are adorable and have started eating and drinking on their own.  They still have a couple weeks to go before they can be adopted–so it should be close to Christmas.  The picture was taken a week ago—Will share another updated on soon.

More room is coming!

More excitement on the farm.  We are building a new kennel for all the dogs at 12 Hills.  I am told that 10 kennels will fit on the south. they will have dog door with outside kennels.   The floors will be heated, so the dogs should be comfortable all winter.  Hoping to get it finished and the dogs moved in before the weather turns bad. These are pictures of the progress.

Be Patient and Count Your Blessings

Patience and blessing go hand in hand at 12 Hills Dog Rescue. Speaking of numbers–7 dogs were adopted to good homes this past weekend. We had such a slow summer that we were worried.  But, just as in life when things don’t go as we hope they would, if we wait patiently–things will change for the better.  The month of November we have been blessed with 21 adoptions so far.  We are hoping for at least 5 more before the end of the month.  I wish I could say I always have patience with the doggies in the house. Right now we have too many, and we seem to be always house training one or two.  Patience and Pee Wee go hand in hand.  Pee Wee is a good boy–he uses the pet door and is never in the way. But . . .  he doesn’t want me to love him or pet him.  He is shy and wants to be on the outer circle until he can trust us.   I need to be patient and wait until the right family comes that will love him and bring him out of his shell.  He is a keeper!

Another New Mama

Katie was pretty heavy when she arrived at 12 Hills Dog Rescue. You might say she was very overweight. I guess a steady diet of powdered eggs could do that to you.  Well, I was right —I diagnosed she was pregnant also, besides being overweight.  Poor Katie–before she had her puppies—we were scared she would burst at the seams.  Well, 5 puppies later, she is starting to regain her shapely figure.  One of the puppies didn’t make it, but we have 4 of the cutest little ones. 2 tan like their Mom, and 2 little black ones with white on  the tips of their toes.  What a good Mama she is—and enjoys having us visit and pet her and the puppies.  They are almost 2 weeks old and their eyes should open soon. We will keep you updated with pictures.

Here is Snowball—the new Mama!

What a good mom she is–to her 6 little Lab puppies.  We think Snowball is part Lab herself.  She is a very sweet gal and has done an amazing job with her little puppies.  She works hard to keep the weight on. After all raising 6 puppies is a BIG job for such a petite little gal.  Her puppies are eating on their own and we will have a picture soon of their messy faces. They will be ready for new homes in 2 weeks, and then Snowball can concentrate on finding her new forever family.
